The Difference Between a Wedding Planner and Coordinator

A Day-of Coordinator usually begins services close to your wedding date and after you have hired all your vendors and venue. Her role is to be in charge of managing the wedding day with all the details that you have spent months planning to ensure that everything comes together exactly as you imagined. A coordinator allows you, the couple, wedding party and guests to enjoy your special day without the stress.

A Wedding Planner goes above and beyond just the day-of the wedding. She will work with you for up to a year before your special day helping with everything from design creation, budget management, invitations, vendor booking and offering suggestions, and contract negotiation in addition to coordinating everything the day of the wedding. A wedding planner is there to help reduce stress by managing and organizing all the details from start to finish. A Wedding Planner is a great option for couples that want the assurance that they are hiring reliable vendors and getting the most for their budget or have demanding busy lifestyles and schedules.

A wedding planner is there for YOU. She is there to make sure your vision comes to life! A planner will never make decisions for you or take away the fun of planning, but will be there to gently guide you to make informed decisions and to ensure that your plan is executed exactly the way you want it.

Why do I need a Wedding Planner?

A planner can SAVE YOU MONEY & TIME! Planners have long-standing relationships with vendors and venues so they can give you the best deals and value for your money. They can also help you put together a realistic budget. In the end the time and money saved may be greater than the cost of the planner, so you basically got the planner for FREE!

The Venue has a Coordinator. Why can't I use them?

Venue coordinators are hired by the venue to maintain and manage the venue only! They work for the venue and not for you. Their main goal is to ensure the facility runs smoothly. They have the best interests of the venue, not necessarily yours. So if you arrive and all your flower arrangements are wrong and the guests can’t figure out where they are supposed to sit,  the venue coordinator can't really help you because they won’t have any idea on what your wishes are.

The Vendors I work with tell me there is a big difference between a wedding with a planner vs. one without. Not only are the finishing touches and design usually better but also the flow of the event and communication between the parties. Although it’s your day, think about the vendors you have hired.
