Choosing Your Wedding Officiate

February 24, 2012

A wedding officiant can make or break your ceremony. An uncaring or unprofessional officiant can sometimes spoil the whole day. Even so, when it comes to finding an officiant, most couples usually just ask two questions - Are you available on our date and what is your fee? But there are other factors couples should consider when choosing their officiate:

  • Spend some time talking with your prospective officiant. Does she sound nice? Easy to work with? Does she have a pleasant speaking voice?
  • Is there a photo of the person that you can view on her website?
  • Is the officiant focused on pleasing you or does she have a set agenda?
  • Is the officiant open to your location, music plans, plans for pictures or video, etc.
  • What experience does she have, and can she provide you with references?
  • Does she offer a variety of packages and ceremonies that fit your lifestye and beliefs? The ceremonies she offers should be words you want spoken over you. The ceremony fitting your life style, having freedom to add things that make this day special for the two of you.

I hope you find this information helpful Choosing the officiant is a big decision with important consequences.
Your officiant and your ceremony are the two key components in your entire day, and the least expensive of all.

Here's an excerpt of one of my ceremonies:

"We come together in marriage in search of something greater than ourselves – something sweeter and richer that somehow transcends our solitary lives. This day you have chosen not only signifies a celebration of shared values and commitment, but it attests to the fact that you have chosen to build your future together"

"Christina was great to work with. Planning a Florida beach wedding from Indiana would have been very difficult for us. Christina put everything together including the location, the officiant and the photographer as well as offering great ideas and additions to our ceremony. Every email was answered right away and each change was accommodated. Our ceremony was EXACTLY what we wanted. I highly recommend Weddings By Christina!"   ~   Read More »
