Personalzing Your Wedding Ceremony

November 29, 2012

The most personal part of your whole wedding day is your wedding ceremony. It is the part of your wedding day that makes you husband and wife. When I am composing a ceremony I try to make sure that the words that my couples hear on their day are a unique expression of their relationship and what’s important to them. If you want, try to incorporate poems, song lyrics or passages that are special to you.

Even for couples that have been living together, your ceremony marks the beginning of your marriage. I encourage couples to incorporate everything that is important to them. That can be a rose on a chair to honor a loved one who has passed away, or involving the parents, both mother and father to walk you down the aisle. I have had couples who have invited their moms to come up and give them their last single kiss before they say their vows. If you have relatives or friends close to you and you want them to be more involved in your wedding you can give them a favorite passage to read during the ceremony or ask them to write something special that they will read.

Many couples now have children from previous marriages and want the children included in the ceremony. I have family vows that can be read both by the parents and the children and a gift can be presented during this part of the ceremony. A Unity Candle or Sand Ceremony is also an especially nice way to include the whole family inthe ceremony.

So as you can see, there are many ways to make your ceremony special and meaningful to you as a couple. There are no hard and fast rules any more. So work with your officiate in designing a ceremony that you and your guests will remember for years to come and a lasting reminder of how blessed you were to find and still be with your own true love.

"Christina was great to work with. Planning a Florida beach wedding from Indiana would have been very difficult for us. Christina put everything together including the location, the officiant and the photographer as well as offering great ideas and additions to our ceremony. Every email was answered right away and each change was accommodated. Our ceremony was EXACTLY what we wanted. I highly recommend Weddings By Christina!"   ~   Read More »
